About Walking with Purpaws

Hello! I'm Erin, I'm a dog walker and trainer based in Glasgow and founder of Walking with Purpaws! I come from a background in Veterinary Bioscience and have a MSc in Animal Welfare Science, Ethics and Law awarded by the University of Glasgow 2018.

Before lockdown, I started working in a veterinary referral hospital and was in a position that I needed to find a dog walking service for my dog Rowan who was only 8 months old at the time. I remember spending so much time searching and having so many questions for the companies I spoke with because I wanted to make sure the skills I had been working on with my young pup weren't going to go completely out the window! However, before I could make a decision either way, the world turned upside down and I no longer had the same working schedule to require a dog walking service. When not working in the vets, I spent the majority of lockdown solely focused on Rowan and her training and trying to make our very limited walks as exciting and varied as possible. I loved every minute of it! I realised I could turn this passion into a worthwhile job and that I could offer fellow dog owners the peace of mind I was looking for when faced with finding someone for my own dog.

Since launching in early 2021, Walking with Purpaws has provided structured in depth style of walks which encourage core behaviours such as loose lead walking, recall and neutrality to dogs and their environment for each dog in our care. I quickly realised that my love for dog training wasn't limited to working with Rowan and I continued to develop my skills as a handler in order to provide the best standard of service for my clients. This year I have undertaken various Institute of Modern Dog Trainers courses to further expand my knowledge and skills will be completing my assessment to become an accredited IMDT member later in the year. I'm passionate about providing ethical and modern training techniques and helping my clients and dogs gain confidence and implement their training in their everyday life.
